Libyan rebels entered Tripoli, West Call Gaddafi to Surrender

TRIPOLI : Western leaders call Libya’s Moammar Gaddafi to surrender Monday after hundreds of rebel fighters swept into Tripoli and secured control of most parts of the capital, heralding an end to his nearly 42-year rule as rebels surrounded Gaddafi’s headquarters and reports of his son Saif al-Islam captured.

Gaddafi loyalists were still holed up in and around the Bab al-Aziziya headquarters where the Libyan leader lived, and there were reports of fierce battles there Monday morning, indicating that the fight was not yet over.

Zero hour starts for Gaddafi as rebels rise up in Libyan Capital

Tripoli : Zero hour has started, as rebels claimed, explosions and gunfire rocked Tripoli through the night as opponents of Muammar Qadhafi rose up in the capital, declaring a final push to topple the Libyan leader after a six-month war reached the city’s outskirts.

A defiant Qadhafi said an assault by “rats” had been repelled. “Those rats … were attacked by the masses tonight and we eliminated them,” Qadhafi said in an audio message broadcast over state television early on Sunday.
