MIAMI: US faces a new weather threat since three years as rapidly intensifying hurricane Irene which has already cut a destructive path through the Caribbean.
According to predictions by the US National Hurricane Center in Miami the Irene was likely to become a major Category 3 hurricane Tuesday.
By Thursday it will come Category 4 hurricane as it roars toward the US coast over warm open waters and winds in such a storm can blow from 131 to 155 mph (210-249 kph).The last hurricane to make landfall in the US was Ike, which pounded Texas in 2008.
