Intelligence Based Operation to be carried out in Karachi


KARACHI: Upon the guidelines of the president and prime minister the intelligence agencies have briefed the government about steps that are to be taken to bring about peace in Karachi.

Army Chief General Kayani, during his trip to Karachi, met with Corp Commander Karachi, DG Rangers and the provincial heads of army intelligence, according to sources. Two important agency reports regarding criminal activities and terrorists was shared with Rangers as well as the IB.

Rangers have begun operations in areas of Karachi where there is unrest. In the report eleven areas have been highlighted where operations will take place.

There will be no interference by the provincial government during the operation.

Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah also declared that indiscriminate action is being taken against criminals in the city under a policy of the government.

He said this while addressing a meeting jointly chaired by him and Interior Minister, Rehman Malik at CM House on Friday. The meeting made a detailed deliberations on law and order situation in Karachi.

The Sindh CM said “we are thankful to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani for taking personal interest in law and order situation in Karachi.”

The Prime Minister had presided a special meeting of Sindh Cabinet and decided to take strict action against terrorists and criminals, he recalled.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah said the Prime Minister had directed to take visible and transparent action against terrorists.

Interior Minister Rehaman Malik has also announced that he will remain in Karachi to monitor the operation.
