WASHINGTON: According to US officials the United States and Pakistan have reached a deal that limits the number of American military troops in Pakistani Territory, amid continued rancor between the two countries.
The presence of any US forces inside Pakistan is highly unpopular there, and became more so after the US military raid inside Pakistan to kill Osama bin Laden.
The new pact slashes the number of US forces allowed in Pakistan compared to a year ago, to between 100 and 150, nearly half of what it has been in the past.
Special operations trainers would fall from 140 to fewer than 10.
The deal is a compromise, however. Pakistan had demanded a complete withdrawal of all US troops.
Pakistan had no immediate comment but previously Pakistan Army has declared that they don't need any of US Military trainers inside Pakistan.
