Arab League Backs Libyan Rebels as they Fight their Final battle


Tripoli : According to reports Libyan Rebel reinforcements have rushed into the Libyan capital to join in the fight against Muammar Gaddafi loyalists, who are putting up strong resistance in some pockets of the city. The rebel Fighters from the port city of Misrata have joined fellow rebels who entered dared this weekend assault that saw the Libyan capital swiftly overrun and Gaddafi's Bab al-Aziziya compound falling in rebel hands.

"Libyan territory is 90 to 95 per cent under the control of the rebellion" claimed rebel spokesman Colonel Abdullah Abu Afra who said "the fall of Bab al-Aziziya marked the end of the Gaddafi regime in Tripoli and in Libya" after 42 years in power.

In Cario the Arab League gave its full backing to Libya’s rebel National Transitional Council (NTC) as the legitimate representative of the Libyan people on Thursday and said it was time for Libya to take back its permanent seat on the League’s council.

“We agreed that it is time for Libya to take back its legitimate seat and place at the Arab League", the League’s Secretary General Nabil Elaraby told reporters in Cairo.
